Self-Assessment

This artifact helped me think about the policies and goals of the department when developing a plan for how to implement new methods and machines to a system. I think it was very eye-opening for the wide range of people that are involved when making plans for a school or larger group.

This ties into NETS standard 5-c and 5-d, Professional Growth and Leadership. In order to provide content that matches the NETS standards, the infrastructure needs to be planned out, which is directly related to this artifact.

All of the information in the document is still valid, but with the changing nature of technology it will need to be refreshed periodically. I think the only change I would have made would be to host the document in an online location that allows it to be more easily updated in a collaborative fashion.

By pulling the information together for this document I learned more about how to guide a large group through the review and selection process of new technologies for a school or department. It also reminded me that there is a wide range of needs for any group that falls under the heading of technology, not just computers and tablets.

Content Explanation

The document attached is a Leadership Document that lists the needs of the department I worked for at the time. It presents a series of plans and instruments to help test new technologies to find out if they will fit with our existing and future needs. It was created to help others in our department look at their technology requests with a bit more focus, and an understanding that with a large group of people it is best to go with solutions that fit the majority where possible.

Process Reflection

This was created as a final project for the TE 878 course, but was also used by our department to help the IT staff justify the choices they made for certain hardware and software as part of a 5-year cycle. The only real obstacle I faced was finding out what was already in place, as none of the documentation was online at the time, and some had not been updated in years. The final document was developed using the guidelines presented in our course.
