Self-Assessment

This artifact was developed as part of my job. As such, it was the first chance I had to put some of my Instructional Technology knowledge to use by developing an online training program through HTML and Flash content. It was really enjoyable to know that something I was creating would be used by hundreds of people to help them become better food handlers and preparers.

This ties into NETS standard 2-b, 3-c, and 5-b. The end result of this project was an online learning web site. It communicates information to students through technology standards in HTML and Flash. It was a demonstration of my knowledge of the tools used to develop a training site.

If I had the chance to work on this project again I would probably look into other options for the video and interactive components of the site beyond just Flash. The format we went with made it difficult to move from the traditional desktop computer to portable devices like cell phones or tablets.

I learned a great deal about how to present information through the world wide web during this project. The process of selecting a tool to fit the needs of the audience was a first for me. The final result was a fusion of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash ActionScript, CGI, and PHP knowledge.

Content Explanation

The final product is a web site that requires payment to view, so the final results could not be presented here. However, attached is the action plan used to develop the site. It was created to help describe what the final site needed to accomplish to be considered a success. It was a reflection of what I had learned about Instructional Technology up to that point.

Process Reflection

The attached document was created to be submitted to my instructor as a description of the process I used for the training web site. There were no real obstacles in creating the document, beyond the timing of writing the text while the site development was already underway.
